2008 JR. MINI RULES

 

 

 

 


AGE LIMIT IN JR.MINI CLASS...12yrs – 15yrs young.

(If a driver begins the season at 15 and turns 16

 during the season they will be allowed to finish.)

 

1.    CHASSIS

       a.  Two or four door sedan body with steel top.

       b.  Station wagons and trucks allowed.

       c.  No sport coupes or convertibles allowed.

       d.  Production wheelbase limited to a maximum of 102".

       e.  Complete body, hood, trunk lid and fenders to remain stock.

       f.  NO front wheel drive cars allowed.  No center drive cars.

       g.  Cars must have complete frame (no cutting).

 h. SEAT BELTS & SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Snell-rated SA95, SA2000 or SA2005 helmet required. Roll bar padding required in driver compartment (Fire retardant recommended). SFI-approved full fire suit required. Fire retardant neck brace, gloves and shoes required. Recommended: Fire retardant head sock and underwear; head and neck restraints; . Driver-side window net required, minimum 16"x 20" ribbon or mesh style, and must be mounted so latch is at top front of window. Minimum three-inch wide five point safety belt assembly required (Y-type shoulder harness not allowed), must be mounted securely to roll cage, recommended to be no more than one year old. Kill switch required within easy reach of driver and must be clearly marked ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’.

 

2.    BODY

a.  All doors and trunk must be welded or bolted.

b.   Body must remain stock, no body modifications.

c.   Headlight, parking, taillight assemblies must be removed.

d.  Body must be neat and have a complete firewall separating engine and driver and a           complete firewall separating fuel container and driver.

e. Must have full stock floorboards, trunk floor, and rear fender wells.

f.  Front windshield area must be covered with driver’s protection bars.

g. Must have full window net on drivers side with quick disconnect.

h.No spoilers or skirts

3.    WEIGHT

a. Must  weigh minimum  2300 #s with driver

b. Any added weight must be securely bolted with 2 half-inch bolts or welded (not to the sheet metal) and painted white with car number on it.

4.    SUSPENSION

a.  Stock for make and model.  No weight jacks allowed.

   b.  Stock shackles, no welded sliders, no spacers or similar may be used to alter                                                                                       suspension.

       c.  One shock or strut per wheel only.  Racing springs and shocks allowed.  Struts may slot       upper mount for adjustment.  Rear shocks and springs must be in factory stock locations


 5. BUMPERS

            a. Front and rear bumpers must be centered on frame rails and in original location.

       b. Front bumpers may be 1 1/2" O.D. pipe, or OEM type, no more than 12" overall height     and no wider than the ball joints. No sharp edges.

       c.  Single loop radiator brace can be installed in front of the radiator, behind bumper, within the confines of the body, no wider than stock frame horns, may tie frame horns together. No cattle guard types.

d.   Rear bumper may not extend back more than 6" from any part of the body and may be no more than 12" high.  No blunt or sharp edges.  Rear bumpers may be fabricated from 1 1/2" O.D. pipe or tubing only. May not wrap around rear quarters.

                          e.  Stock type bumpers may be used on front and/or rear.


      

 

 

 

6. ENGINE


           a.  In-line four-cylinder.  No rotary engines or turbos.

b.   Engine must be OEM for year and make of car or truck and in stock location.

c.Engine must remain stock stroke.  0.040 overbore allowed.  Only flat top pistons will be considered legal.

d.   Camshaft lift optional.

e.   No roller camshaft, roller rockers, roller lifters or dual overhead cams.

f. Engine: use stock OEM block, head, distributor and valves.  May not deck or otherwise mill the block.

g.  Intake manifold - unaltered OEM stock for make. No fuel injected intake!

h.  Heads may be milled.  No porting, polishing or port matching.

i.  No Weber or Mikuni carburetors.  OEM carburetor for make and model. Stock unaltered 500 CFM carburetors allowed.

j.  Battery type ignition in stock location only.  No magnetos, dual points, MSD type boxes or any other aftermarket electronic ignitions allowed.

k.  If electric fuel pump is used, an automatic oil pressure cut off switch is required.

l.   Must pull 15” of vacuum at 1200 RPMs

7.  TRANSMISSION

  a.   Standard or automatic transmissions allowed.  Automatic transmissions must use   torque converters.  No ram type coupling devices allowed.

        b.   No multi-disc clutches allowed.

   c.   All cars must have a clutch scatter shield.  Scatter shield may be fabricated from 1/4"   minimum steel and secured to floor covering clutch area.

d.   Transmissions must have working forward and reverse.

e.   No oil coolers in drivers compartment.

         8.  RADIATOR

a.  Only one radiator is allowed, centered in front of engine.

b.  Must have stock or metal fan shroud in place.

       9.  EXHAUST


a.  Headers or stock exhaust manifold.

b.  Mufflers are required. Must run 3 ring or IMCA 609

c.   Pipe must exhaust under the car.

10.  REAR END

a.  Locked rear ends are allowed.

b.  Rear end must be stock for make.

c.  No alteration of drive shaft allowed.

d.  Drive shaft must be painted white and have a minimum of two safety loops.       

11.  BRAKES

a. All cars must have a minimum of two (2) working brakes.

b. Three (3) or four (4) wheel brakes recommended.

12.  ROLL CAGE

a.  All cars must have a minimum six-point roll cage.

b.  All roll cages must be at least 1˝” outside diameter x .095 wall minimum steel tubing.

c.  Driver's head must be at least 2" lower than roll cage.

d.  All cages must have three horizontal bars running from front to back between upright bars on both sides of driver.

e.  Cage must have minimum 2"x6"x1/4" plate welded to bottom of upright tubes and bolted through floor with minimum 2"x6"x1/4" plates under floor with two (minimum) ˝" (minimum) bolts through each plate.

f.   Any bracing inside car body is allowed.

g.  Under the hood (engine compartment) bracing is allowed.

h.  All interior glass, chrome, door handles, lights, trim and anything else that may come loose on impact, must be removed.

i.   All flammable material (except driver seat and headrest) must be removed.

j.     Fenders may be cut for tire clearance.  No internal reinforcing allowed.

k.   ALUMINUM RACING SEAT REQUIRED. NO FIBERGLASS SEATS ALLOWED.

l.     Roll bar padding anywhere the driver may come in contact with.

13.  TIRES & WHEELS

a.  8" maximum width, steel wheels only.  Washers, plating or double nuts are allowed.       No aluminum wheels.

b.  Tires must be 60 or 70 series street tires only.  No mud or knobbies or 80 series.   No racing tires, no racing brands and no retreads.


        c.  No bead locks.  No grooving of tires.

14.  FUEL

a.  Pump or Track gasoline only.

b.  No nitro, additives or methanol alcohol allowed.

c. If fuel cell does not have aircraft style positive seal filler neck/cap system - a flapper, spring or ball type filler rollover valve is required.

15.  FUEL TANK 


a.  Racing fuel cell required.

b. Tank or cell must be mounted to floor with a minimum of two steel straps.

c.  Tank or cell must be insulated from floor with rubber.

d.Tank or cell must be located a minimum of 12" inches from either side of car and 16" i    inches from rear of car body.

e.  Tank or cell must have a vent hose extending through floor.

f.  Vent hose must be clamped in place and secured.

g.  All filler necks must be inside car and must be OEM or screw cap type.

h.  Floor in fuel tank area must have holes to allow spilled fuel to drain out of car.

i.  Any loss of fuel requires leaving track immediately.

j.  Fabricated tanks must be a minimum of .040 thick.

16. BATTERY


a.  Battery must be securely mounted in a marine box or be a GEL CELL type battery.

b.  Battery must be in good working condition capable of starting car.


 17.  NERF BARS

a.  Nerf bars are allowed but must be flush with body.  No blunt or sharp edges.

b.  Nerf bars must be 1" x 2" rectangle

       c.  Nerf bars are only allowed between wheels.

18.  ENGINE CLAIM RULE

  Promoter has the option of claiming any engine, from intake to oil pan, for $500.00

  if necessary to keep them within the rules.

  Refusal of claim will result in loss of all points and disqualification from KSP.
